Tirupati Laddu: FSSAI notice to ghee supplying company, is there animal fat in your ghee?


FSSAI has issued a show cause notice to a Tamil Nadu company. The company is accused of supplying substandard ghee to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had alleged that the previous YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government had used substandard ingredients and animal fat in Tirupati laddu.

ET report (ReferenceAccording to the FSSAI, the FSSAI has asked AR Dairy Food Private Limited why its central license should not be suspended for violating the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Regulations 2011. The FSSAI took this step after receiving information from the Director of the Institute of Preventive Medicine. The information states that AR Dairy Food Private Limited has been one of the suppliers of ghee to TTD for the last four years.

The Ghee Procurement Committee of TTD had sent all the samples supplied to NDDB CALF Lab, Anand, Gujarat for testing. The sample of AR Dairy Food Pvt Ltd (FSSAI Central License No. 10014042001610) failed to meet the standards.

This test may require a proper laboratory visit.

  • Adulterated ghee may have an unnatural or strong odor, and may also taste different.
  • Pure ghee is light golden in colour and has a soft texture.

  • Always buy genuine and certified brand of Ghee which is certified by FSSAI or other standards.
  • Avoid buying loose ghee as there are high chances of adulteration in it.
