Tibetan leader highlights Tibet’s struggle, role of global advocacy

As part of his/her ongoing official tour across Europe, Sikyong Penpa Tsering, the political leader of Tibet’s Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), addressed the Tibetan community in Barcelona and spoke about the importance of raising global awareness of the political situation in Tibet. Underlined the importance.

According to a statement from the CTA, Tsering reminded the community that despite the enormous challenges facing Tibet, the international visibility of the Tibet issue remains strong, largely due to the tireless efforts of the Dalai Lama.

Sikyong began by paying tribute to the Dalai Lama For more than 65 years, the Dalai Lama has been a leading figure in keeping the Tibetan struggle alive on the world stage, according to CTA.

Sikyong acknowledged the Dalai Lama’s important role in shaping global consciousness on the plight of Tibet, saying, “Much of international awareness of Tibet today is due to his/her Holiness’s leadership, kindness and wisdom.”

The most significant aspect of Sikyong’s address was his/her focus on international advocacy and growing global recognition of the Tibet issue. he/she particularly highlighted recent developments such as the adoption of the Tibet-China Conflict Resolution Act by the US Government.

This historic law, which calls for a peaceful resolution of the Tibet–China issue and greater international pressure on China to respect Tibet’s cultural and religious autonomy, was an important milestone in the Tibetan independence struggle.

Sikyong emphasized that such successes are not the result of isolated efforts, but of years of tireless work by Tibetan aid groups, activists, and international policy makers. Turning to the issue of dialogue with China, Sikyong expressed cautious optimism but tempered his/her comments with a realistic assessment of the current political scenario.

he/she acknowledged that although the CTA is committed to the Middle Way approach – seeking genuine autonomy for Tibet within the framework of China – there is still uncertainty about the prospects for meaningful negotiations. he/she reiterated that the CTA’s commitment to the Middle Way is firm, but stressed that Tibet’s independence struggle cannot rely solely on negotiations with the Chinese government.

Today the Tibet-China issue remains unresolved. While the Chinese government maintains strict control over Tibet, Tibetans in exile continue to advocate for their rights, including through the work of the CTA, which acts as the Tibetan government-in-exile. Despite international pressure, the Chinese government continues to reject any form of independence or autonomy for Tibet.
