This year more than 54 thousand families got roofs, know what the figures of PM Awas Yojana say

New Delhi: Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Rural, a total of 3 crore 22 lakh houses have been approved so far. Out of these, 2 crore 68 lakh houses have been ready. Of the approximately 28 lakh houses sanctioned from April 1 in the year 2024, the construction of about 2% has been completed, while the first installment of grant has been released for about 88%. That means, till December 30, construction of 54 thousand 582 houses has been completed.

Target set to provide permanent houses to two crore people

With the aim of housing for all, the Central Government had set a target of providing 2 crore 95 lakh pucca houses equipped with basic facilities including water and electricity to the people by 2024 under PM Awas Yojana-Gramin. In its third term, the Modi government expanded the scheme on August 9, 2024 and approved building 2 crore more houses in rural areas between FY 2024-25 to FY 2028-29.

What do the figures say?

According to the Ministry of Rural Development, a total of 3 crore 33 lakh houses were allotted to the states and union territories till December 30, 2024. Of these, approval for 3 crore 22 lakh houses had been given by the states after completing the formalities. Apart from this, the first installment of grant for 3 crore 4 lakh houses had been released and 2 crore 68 lakh houses had been completed.

According to the ministry, 28 lakh 17 thousand 22 houses were approved between April 1 and December 30 in 2024. Of these, the first installment of grant had been released for 22 lakh 97 thousand 880 houses and by December 30, construction of 54 thousand 582 houses had been completed. PM Narendra Modi had released the first installment of grant to more than 10 lakh beneficiaries of the scheme on September 17 and also launched the Awas Plus app.

All-weather roads to be built in 242 villages in 2024

The ministry said on Tuesday that under the PM Gram Sadak Yojana, all-weather roads were built in 242 villages in 2024. A total of 21,584 kilometers of roads and 427 bridges were approved under this scheme. Of these, 19,606 kilometers of roads were built and 3,489 bridges were constructed. During this period, a total of Rs 17,415 crore was spent including the states’ share.
