44 years ago on 31st July, a precious gem of the country passed away, who was called India’s ‘Tansen’ and ‘God’s voice’. This was Mohammad Rafi, who at the age of just 25 achieved such a historic honour that everyone was left stunned. he/she became famous all over the world. he/she sang more than 26 thousand songs in many languages. he/she was such a singer whose voice not only suited happy and peppy songs, but also romantic, sad, qawwali, bhajan and even disco songs. he/she was an all-rounder and his/her voice changed according to every mood and environment. When Mohammad Rafi died, the whole country cried. A huge crowd gathered to bid him/her a final farewell. It is said that the crowd that gathered to bid a final farewell to Mohammed Rafi on 31 July 1980 was so huge that the crowd that gathered there only during Mahatma Gandhi’s last journey before that. On the demise of Mohammed Rafi, all the schools of the country were closed and many big personalities had come to bid him/her a final farewell. Then to pay tribute to Babu, Mohammad Rafi sang a song ‘Suno Suno Ae Duniya Walon, Bapu Ki Ye Amar Kahani’. It was written by Rajendra Krishna and composed by Husnaram Bhagat Ram. This song created a stir in the whole country as soon as it was released.

10 lakh records were sold in a month, released in four parts

Then one million (10 lakh) records of this song were sold in a month. In those days 78 RPM shellac records were made, in which the maximum recording of a song was 3 minutes 20 seconds. But ‘Bapu Ki Ye Amar Kahani’ was a 12-minute long song and hence it was released in four parts.

Pandit Nehru called Rafi home and made him/her listen to the song, he/she started crying

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was also very impressed by this song. he/she specially invited Mohammad Rafi to his/her house and listened to this song. Tears started flowing from his/her eyes after listening to it. Mohammad Rafi was only 24-25 years old then. Jawaharlal Nehru honoured him/her with a silver medal on the first anniversary of independence in 1948. Not only this, Nehru also invited Mohammad Rafi to sing ‘Lahrao Tiranga’ on the first Republic Day of the country.
