The World’s Largest Graveyard

Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona, USA is considered to be the world’s largest graveyard. This place is also famous by the name of “Boneyard”. There are about 4000 damaged airplanes standing here. Those which have scope for repair are repaired. The parts inside the remaining airplanes are sold at a low price and used in the construction of other planes. After getting damaged, the body of the airplane is of no use, so it is left like that. However, the US government has given permission to other countries to buy old parts and planes from here.

Why do you have to do this

Just like a human has a life, similarly an airplane also has a life. In simple words, the life of an airplane is 10 to 20 years. After this, these airplanes are brought to the graveyard. The necessary parts are removed, the rest of the outer body is left under the open sky.

Which airplanes are here?

Anyone can be surprised to see the airplanes parked here. This graveyard has everything from airplanes to spaceships. The Cold War era bomber plane B-52 is also a part of this cemetery. Apart from this, F-14 planes are also kept here, you must have seen it in the famous Hollywood movie ‘Top Gun’. Let us tell you that this plane was removed from the US Navy’s fleet in the year 2006.

It has been used in NASA

After the Second World War, damaged airplanes started piling up here. However, some airplanes have also been used by NASA. The interesting thing is that earlier this place used to be a tourist spot. People used to come to see this wonder. But now entry has been closed here.

America’s 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group takes care of the largest graveyard of aircrafts. Not only this, it also repairs the aircrafts that come here. Even today more than 500 employees are engaged in the maintenance of these airplanes in this graveyard. However, no outsider comes here even to take a look. The number of airplanes is increasing day by day and no one knows what will happen to these airplanes lying like junk.
