New Delhi. The Indian cricket team’s tour of Australia was very disappointing. Indian captain Rohit Sharma did not score runs during the series and he/she dropped himself from the playing eleven in the last test. After this, the news of his/her rift with coach Gautam Gambhir came to light. BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla on Monday, while reacting to the news of differences between coach Gambhir and captain Rohit, called it nonsense.

Rajiv Shukla was seen standing with Rohit Sharma who was struggling with poor form. India has suffered a crushing defeat of 1-3 against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Rohit scored only 31 runs during the series, due to which he/she was heavily criticized and news of his/her retirement from Tests also started appearing. Amidst Rohit’s poor performance, there were speculations that there were differences between Gambhir and him/her. There is also speculation about differences of opinion regarding the poor performance of other senior players of the team including Virat Kohli.

Rajeev Shukla, in response to questions on the criticism of the team after the defeat, said, “This is a completely wrong statement. There is no difference of opinion between the chairman of the selection committee (Ajit Agarkar) and the coach, there is no difference of opinion between the captain and the coach. This is all nonsense, which is being spread in a section of the media.”

There is speculation that Gambhir had given an ultimatum to the senior players to either perform well or be ready to be dropped. Rajiv Shukla said, “It is also wrong that Rohit has insisted on captaincy. he/she is the captain. Being in form or not is part of the game. When he/she (Rohit) saw that he/she was not in form, he/she ruled himself out of the fifth Test.”
Shukla also said that the recently held review meeting to evaluate the team’s performance has been completed. “We discussed the way forward and ways to do better,” he/she said.
