New Delhi. Kamindu Mendis has broken the record of India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. The Sri Lankan team is currently playing the second test match of the series against New Zealand at home. In the first innings of this test match, young all-rounder Mendis played an unbeaten inning of 182 runs. During this period, Kamindu also completed his/her 1000 runs in Test. The record for scoring the fastest 1000 runs in Test is held by England’s Herbert Stucliffe and West Indies’ Everton Weekes, who reached the 1000 mark in the same 12-12 Test innings. 25-year-old Kamindu Mendis scored unbeaten 182 runs in 250 balls in which he/she hit 16 fours and four sixes. Mendis made a partnership of 107 runs with Angelo Mathews while he/she added 74 runs with Dhananjay De Silva. After this, Kamindu along with Kushal Mendis added unbeaten 200 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal had scored 1000 runs in 16 innings. This is the fastest 1000 Test runs by a batsman since 1950. After 74 years, no batsman was successful in touching the figure of one thousand in such a short number of innings in Test.
