This happened for the first time in 147 years of history, a 25-year-old batsman made a world record


New Delhi. Sri Lanka’s young batsman Kamindu Mendis has created a new world record in Test cricket. Mendis registered a world record in his/her name as soon as he/she completed his/her half-century in the second Test match against New Zealand in Galle. Mendis has become the first batsman in the world to score more than 50 runs in 8 consecutive Test matches since his/her debut. Earlier this record was in the name of Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel who scored fifty plus in 7 consecutive Test matches. Mendis did wonders by coming in to bat at number five. Since his/her Test debut, Mendis has been making a splash in the longer format of cricket.

25-year-old Kamindu Mendis came to the crease when Dinesh Chandimal had strengthened Sri Lanka’s start by scoring a century. Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. Mendis completed his/her half-century in 52 balls in the last over of the day. Sri Lanka had scored 306 runs for 3 wickets by the end of the first day’s play. Saud Shakeel had made this world record last year. Earlier, Sunil Gavaskar, Basil Butcher, Saeed Ahmed and Bert Sachcliffe had scored 50 plus in six consecutive Tests after their debut Test.

The incredible Test career of Kamindu Mendis
Kamindu Mendis’ Test career has been incredible. Although he/she still has a long way to go, in his/her short Test career, Mendis has shown that he/she is going to be a future superstar. Mendis, who made his/her Test debut against Australia in Galle in 2022, has scored 873 runs in 13 innings of 8 Tests. During this, his/her average has been 79.36, which includes four centuries and five half-centuries.

Dinesh Chandimal equals Jayasuriya
Veteran batsman Dinesh Chandimal scored a brilliant century in Galle. This was the 16th century of his/her Test career. During this time, he/she equaled the record of legendary Sanath Jayasuriya. Jayasuriya has also scored 16 centuries in Tests. Chandimal completed his/her century in 171 balls. Dimuth Karunaratne was out after scoring 46 runs, while Angelo Mathews is playing after scoring 78 runs, while Kamindu Mendis is unbeaten after scoring 51 runs in 56 balls.
