80s love story

It was the year 1975 when Charlotte von Schedvin of Sweden met Indian artist PK Mahanandia in Delhi. Sweden had heard a lot about Mahanandia’s art, so she came to India to get her portrait painted. It was a cold evening in Delhi when Charlotte von Schedvin asked PK Mahanandia to paint her portrait.

While sketching Charlotte, Pradyumna fell in love with her. Sweden also gave her heart to Pradyumna. Mahanandiya fell in love with Charlotte’s beauty and Charlotte liked his/her simplicity.

Marriage… then fate took a turn

PK Mahanandiya and Charlotte’s love grew with time. Meanwhile, Charlotte agreed to go to Odisha with Mahanandiya. After spending a few days in Mahanandiya’s village, he/she returned to Delhi. But then Charlotte returned after taking Mahanandiya’s promise to visit his/her city Boras in Sweden. More than a year passed, during which the two kept in touch through love letters. But Mahanandiya did not have money for the plane ticket.

Cycling from India to Europe

In 1977, Pradyumna Kumar Mahanandia planned to meet Charlotte von Schedvin. Not having the money for a flight ticket, Pradyumna decided to go to his/her love no matter what. Pradyumna sold everything he/she had, bought a bicycle and decided to go to Sweden. Pradyumna continued cycling for the next 4 months and 3 weeks, during which he/she cycled 70 kilometers every day.

Difficulties came… did not give up

To travel to Sweden, Pradyumna crossed Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey. he/she reached Europe via Istanbul and Vienna and then travelled to Gothenburg by train. he/she faced a lot of difficulties during this time. Not only this, many times he/she did not even have money to eat, however his/her art came in handy here. he/she made his/her living by making sketches of people.

Married in Sweden

When Pradyumna reached Europe, he/she had no knowledge about the place. However, Charlotte supported him/her at every step. Both of them got married and Pradyumna started living with his/her wife in Sweden forever. The couple, who have been living together for years, have two children. Pradyumna is still working as an artist.
