This 54 year old picture shows how humble Manmohan Singh was…you will appreciate after seeing it


New Delhi : Former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh was cremated on Saturday at Nigam Bodh Ghat in Delhi. After the demise of Dr. Singh, people across the country and the world are remembering him/her in different ways. In this sequence, former Finance Minister of West Bengal Amit Mitra has shared a wonderful memory related to the former PM. Mitra posted a photo of Manmohan Singh, during a group photo shoot at the Delhi School of Economics (DSE) in 1969. Singh was a professor at the prestigious college at that time. Mitra, a former student of Singh, wrote on social media platform he/she said that the picture taken at Delhi School of Economics shows the humility of Dr. Singh.

Former CAG had sent the picture

Mitra shared the photo which was sent to him/her by former CAG Vinod Rai. Vinod Rai is also an alumnus of DSE. In this, Rai is standing next to Manmohan Singh. Nobel laureate Amartya Sen is also seen in this iconic photo. Mitra said he/she was present there as the outgoing president of the fraternity.

Mitra said in his/her post, “The irony is that Vinod Rai is standing next to Dr Singh on his/her left. More than 40 years later, Vinod’s report as CAG of India created a storm against Dr Singh and his/her government (2G and coal ‘scam’). This led to the fall of the government and the rise of Narendra Modi.

54 year old picture is worth 1000 words

Mitra said that a 54-year-old picture (which Vinod had sent me a few years ago) was worth 1,000 words…Dr. As students of Manmohan Singh, we will miss his/her warmth…Dr. May Leo’s soul rest in peace. Singh was Professor of International Trade at DSE from 1969 to 1971. his/her former students remember his/her lectures and his/her simplicity, when they used to go to college in DTC buses.
Vinod Rai, who received a master’s degree from DSE, became the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. his/her two reports on 2G spectrum allocation and coal scam created massive controversy. Due to this, the Singh led UPA coalition government was forced out of power.

Remembered Manmohan Singh’s class

Mitra is now the Principal Chief Advisor to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. he/she recalled Manmohan Singh’s classes which he/she attended. Mitra told our associate newspaper Times of India that in the class, Dr. Manmohan Singh taught us business finance very easily. Outside the classroom, in the coffee house of Delhi School of Economics, we learned from him/her the art of equanimity with the genuine affection of a true teacher.
