There will be a shortage of workers in Canada! This state ‘enraged’ over Trudeau government’s new work permit rule, opened front

Canada PGWP Rules for Indians: There are less than three weeks left for Canada to implement new and stricter ‘Post-Graduation Work Permit’ (PGWP) eligibility criteria for international students. PGWP is given to students who have completed their studies in Canada and now want to get a job there. However, in Canada, there is a lot of concern about the impact of the new PGWP rules on the economy of the state of Ontario and its workforce.
Along with the PGWP rules, rules limiting the number of international students are also coming into effect from November 1. This is going to affect Indian students also. It has been alleged that the Canadian government made these rules without consulting Ontario. In a statement, Marketa Evans, CEO and president of Colleges Ontario, which represents 24 colleges in Ontario, expressed disappointment in the government’s decision, as 40 per cent of students in her state come from India.

There will be a shortage of workers in Ontario

Marketa Evans said the new rules will increase labor shortages across Ontario by excluding college programs training workers for critical jobs. Evans said people in the state trust college graduates. he/she explained how the new guidelines are going to hamper access to essential services like affordable childcare, dental care, mental health support and healthcare.

Which sectors are going to be affected?

Many important programs have been excluded from the new eligibility criteria for obtaining PGWP. For example, Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene students will no longer be allowed to work in Canada. This will reduce the number of people in the dental care field.

Early childhood education (ECE) is another field that has been affected. Students of this field will also not get work opportunities in Canada. Similarly, construction, advanced manufacturing and energy sectors are also going to be affected by the new rules. College trained workers were hired here.

Additionally, the healthcare sector is also going to be affected as there will be no job opportunities in Canada for registered nursing graduates from the college. Evans emphasized sending better students to areas of high demand rather than arbitrarily cutting the number of students. he/she said we believe that college graduates are as important to Ontario’s economic development as university graduates.

Appeal to the government not to hurry in implementing the rules

Marketa Evans has requested the government led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau not to rush to implement the new rules. The government should consider the impact on Ontario and its local companies. he/she said that there should be dialogue between the state government and the Center so that such policies can be made so that there is no shortage of workforce to help the people in Ontario.
