There will be a permanent digital record of children’s vaccination, the government will launch the U-Win portal this month

New Delhi : The Union Health Ministry is working towards increasing access to health services through the National Digital Mission. Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra said on Friday that the online vaccine management portal U-Win will be launched later this month to keep a permanent digital record of vaccinations and medicines for more than three crore pregnant women and about 2.7 crore children born annually. he/she said that the success of Covin and Arogya Setu app can be gauged from the fact that it helped in vaccinating more than 220 crore people across the country.

Ayushman Bharat model will be replicated

Apoorva Chandra said that the central government wants to replicate the same model through the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. This is a major scheme of the government. he/she said that several portals are already operating in various fields like telemedicine, telemanas, e-blood bank and efforts are being made to connect them to a single portal. Health Secretary Apoorva Chandra said about the changes being made in the National Health Claim Exchange that this will promote transparency and simplify the process of insurance claims. Insurance claims will be settled quickly and more insurance companies will be connected through the portal. People will be able to get better health services. Artificial intelligence is also being used in the field of health.

U-Win on the lines of Co-Win

The ‘U-WIN’ portal will be similar to ‘Co-WIN’ launched for COVID-19 vaccine management during the coronavirus pandemic. It is being piloted in all states and union territories except West Bengal and covers every vaccination program for all pregnant women and children under the Universal Immunization Program (UIP). An electronic record of regular vaccination will be maintained.

The announcement was made in the interim budget

It was announced in the Interim Budget 2024-2025 that along with the efforts being made under ‘Mission Indradhanush’, ‘U-WIN’ will be implemented across the country to manage vaccination. This platform generates a similar ‘QR’ code based, digitally verifiable e-vaccination certificate like the COVID vaccination certificate, which people can get anytime with a single click. Dr. VK Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog said that the health sector in India is undergoing major changes. he/she said that a strong primary healthcare system is a high priority to make healthcare accessible in the times to come.

Vaccine will be administered at the right time

According to the Ministry of Health, ‘U-WIN will ensure timely administration of vaccine doses by digitally recording each vaccination program under the universal immunization program for all pregnant women and children up to the age of five.’ 11 vaccines of diphtheria, measles, rubella and tetanus will be made available. This platform generates a similar ‘QR’ code based, digitally verifiable e-vaccination certificate like the Kovid vaccination certificate, which people can get at any time with a single click.

The hassle of keeping records will go away

Officials said that the records of vaccination under UIP are currently being prepared by the personnel. Now the problem of maintaining physical records will be eliminated. Apart from this, there is lack of awareness about the place and date of vaccination among the beneficiaries in urban areas and there is inequality in vaccination coverage across states and union territories. Another big issue is that records of vaccination are not maintained in private health centers and hospitals.
