There was a ruckus over the post against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s daughter Anjali, HC gave this order to Google and X

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed ‘X Corp’ and ‘Google Inc’ to remove prima facie defamatory social media posts against Anjali Birla, Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) officer and daughter of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Justice Navin Chawla also restrained unknown parties from directly or indirectly posting, disseminating, transmitting, tweeting or retweeting the alleged defamatory material mentioned in the defamation suit filed by Anjali Birla.

Instructions given to remove the post within 24 hours

The High Court said that the social media post will be removed by the moderators within 24 hours, and if the plaintiff comes to know about any other similar post, she will inform ‘X’ and ‘Google’ about it. The High Court also issued notice to ‘X’, ‘Google’, Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and unknown parties in this case and asked them to respond within four weeks.

What was the allegation in the post

The officer has sought directions to remove posts on social media which alleged that she cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam in her first attempt due to her father’s influence. Her counsel said she had appeared in UPSC, Civil Services Examination (CSE) and was selected in the consolidated reserve list of 2019. She joined Indian Railways as an IRPS officer.
