‘There is no big gang involved in paper leak, local level irregularities are worrisome’, said central officer on NEET

New Delhi: The CBI has intensified the investigation in the NEET paper leak case. Special teams have been formed for investigation in view of complaints in different states. Meanwhile, the central government said that the NEET-UG 2024 ‘paper leak’ case has happened at the local level. No big gang is involved in this. The selection of one lakh students in the examination at 4,500 centers across the country is proof of this. The government also said that addressing the concerns of students and parents is its top priority. The government said that the National Testing Agency (NTA) will be reformed, which has become necessary after allegations of irregularities. These reforms will be done before the next NEET-UG exam.

CBI speeds up investigation on NEET

Senior central government officials said the role of coaching centres in creating panic among students should also be investigated. They further said a central advisory issued on coaching centres in January this year has not been followed properly and further action will be taken on it. Of the 1,563 candidates who were given grace marks in NEET-UG, 52 per cent appeared for the exam again. Top officials said the government is not satisfied with the methodology used to award grace marks to students.

Action in Bihar, many arrested

In Bihar National Eligibility Criteria The Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) intensified its investigation into the ‘paper leak’ case and arrested five more suspects on Sunday. These arrests were made in Deoghar, Jharkhand, taking the total number of people arrested in this case to 18. The five arrested are residents of Nalanda. Their names are Baldev Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Panku Kumar, Rajiv Kumar and Paramjeet Singh. After the NTA detected the irregularities, 17 more students were expelled from the centers in Bihar.

CBI speeds up investigation

Officials said that the CBI has registered a new case against unknown persons based on the reference issued by the Union Education Ministry. About 24 lakh students have taken the medical entrance exam. The ministry had to accept the demand of students protesting in several cities to investigate the alleged irregularities. A senior official of the Education Ministry said that some cases of alleged irregularities, cheating have come to light in the NEET-UG examination held on May 5. After a review, it was decided to hand over the case to the CBI for a comprehensive investigation for transparency in the conduct of the examination process.
