History is related to Mahabharata period

According to the information, the history of this temple is linked to the Mahabharata period. There are 5 monasteries built in the temple complex, in which statues of Shiva are carved. It is said that these monasteries were built by the Pandavas. People call this the house of Pandavas or the house of Pandavas toys. According to the legend, Pandavas used to worship Mata Rani by sitting here.​

Miraculous pitcher in the temple

Whenever you come to this temple, you will see a big size copper pot. This pitcher is quite old. It is said that whenever the water level of Pabbar river increases, this pot starts running away, hence it is kept tied with chains. Local people believe that these chains are buried under the feet of Mata Rani. So that the pitcher cannot run away. Apart from this, local people believe that if they search for the lost vessel while sowing the crop, then the crop will be very good.

The idol of Mata is from 7th century

​The idol of Hateshwari Mata kept in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple is worth seeing, which is killing Mahishasura. This statue is from the 7th century. Its height is 1.2 meters. The idol has 8 hands. Mother is holding the head of Mahishasura in her left hand. It is said that Mother’s right foot is underground. The dead man has Chakra in one hand and Raktabeej in the other. A copper urn of Parashurama is kept near the goddess in the sanctum sanctorum.

History of Hatkoti Temple

​The temple of Hateshwari Mata was built in the 9th to 10th century. Even before this, remains of many temples have been found here. Hatkoti village is spread over 5 square km. Even today, temples are built at many places in the village. Their carvings and architecture are said to be between 6th to 9th century. The temple looks like a pyramid, around which walls of wood and stone have been built.

Preity Zinta had her children shaved here

​Bollywood actress Preity Zinta has a special connection with this temple. Actually, the actress had shaved her twin children in the Hatkoti temple itself. Since then this temple has been much talked about.

To reach Hatkoti temple, you can use Shimla Rohru route. This route passes through places like Khara, Paththar and Kotkhai. You can also reach here by taxi.
