There is a shortage of teachers in America, 21% posts remain vacant by 2025! Shocking figure came out

American Education System: Whenever America is talked about, it is believed that the education system here is the best in the world. This is completely true, because from the time they get a university degree till they go to school, students are provided with good and high quality education. The condition of universities is good in America, but the condition of schools at that level is not good. It is becoming difficult to find teachers here. There is a shortage of teachers before the start of the academic year.
In fact, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) said through School Pulse Panel (SPP) data, on an average six posts of teachers were lying vacant in schools. By the time schools opened, 79% of the posts were filled, which is slightly better than previous years. However, even after this, it is becoming difficult to hire teachers, especially in those fields where specialization is required. This is the reason why America is currently facing a shortage of teachers, which is not at all good for the students.

Which subjects have the least number of teachers?

Schools are finding it increasingly difficult to find special education and English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers. There are very few teachers to teach these subjects. According to the NCES survey conducted between August 13 and 27, 2024, 74% of schools reported difficulty recruiting special education teachers, while 69% of high schools reported difficulty recruiting ESL teachers. This shows that even though America’s education system is the best in the world, there may be a shortage of teachers here too.

Difficulty in filling non-teaching posts also

Schools are also facing challenges in recruiting non-teaching staff. 40% of transportation staff posts are still vacant. However, there has been a slight improvement in filling of non-teaching posts this year as compared to last year. 73% of non-teaching posts were filled by the start of the 2024-25 academic year, compared to 69% last year. In this way, America is not only having trouble finding teachers, but it is also not finding staff.
