Why Sissu remains closed for tourists for 44 days

One of the main reasons for the movement of tourists in Sissu is related to religious importance. In fact, it is believed that since ancient times, Lahaul Valley has been serving as a place of penance for Gods and Goddesses. Many deities reside here including the revered King Ghepan and Goddess Bhoti.

According to local beliefs, after January 15, these deities depart for Devlok (the abode of the gods). In their absence, evil forces take over, posing a threat to humans in rivers, streams and deserted areas. To honor the gods and goddesses, people perform religious rituals during this period.
