The world’s number-1 university MIT opened its doors for everyone! Will provide education without fees, made a big announcement

MIT Tuition Free Education: Financial assistance is provided to students to study in America’s Massachusetts Institute of Technology i.e. MIT. MIT has now made changes to its financial aid program, which will make it easier for children from American families to study undergraduate courses. From the academic year starting 2025, children from families whose annual income is less than $2 lakh (Rs 1.68 crore) will be given free education in MIT.
Lakhs of rupees are spent on studying in MIT, due to which not everyone is able to study here. Nearly 80% of American families earn less than $2 lakh annually, which means many children will now get a chance to study in the world’s top universities for free. Not only this, but children of American families whose annual income is less than $ 1 lakh (Rs 84 lakh) will not have to pay a single penny for education. This includes hostel expenses, food, books and daily expenses.

What did the institute say about its decision?

Stu Schmill, dean of admissions and student financial services at MIT, emphasized the institute’s role in bringing education to children. he/she said, “We want MIT to become the first choice for America’s most talented children to study science and technology. Our aim is that no child should be left behind in studies due to lack of money.” Earlier, financial assistance was given to families earning $75,000. Access to free education was limited to families earning $140,000.

How much does it cost to study at MIT?

If the children of a family have not received financial help, then their education expenses in the academic year 2024-25 have been around $85,960 (approximately Rs 72 lakh). This includes $61,990 tuition fees, $13,060 hostel rent, $7,220 food expenses, $910 book-copy expenses, $2,374 daily expenses and $406 for student activities.

However, children who are given financial assistance do not have to spend so much for their education. In 2024, the average expenditure on such children studying at MIT was $ 12,938 (about Rs 10 lakh). Because of this, 87% of the students who completed their studies from MIT had no debt of any kind. At the same time, the children who had studied by taking loan also had a debt of $ 14,844 (Rs 12 lakh), which is much less compared to other colleges in America.

What changes can be seen in 2025?

From next year, students in MIT will be given financial aid according to the family income. Families whose annual income is less than $1 lakh will not have to pay a single penny for education, hostel, food, books, or anything else. Families whose income is between 1 lakh to 2 lakh dollars may have to spend some money for education. This will depend on what the financial condition of the family is.

Such families still do not have to pay anything for tuition fees, but for other expenses they may have to pay a maximum of $ 23,970 (Rs 19 lakh). This includes hostel rent and food expenses. If the income of a family is more than 2 lakh dollars, then they can also get financial help, but this will be decided after looking at their financial condition. However, it is important to clarify here that MIT’s rules are only for American families.
