The world is moving towards a better future… India showed direction in the two-day G20 summit meeting.

New Delhi: In view of the difficult circumstances under which the two-day annual summit meeting of the G20 countries was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, it may not have been successful in showing any immediate achievement, but if seen in continuity, it has helped in solving the challenges facing the world. The resolve to fight this has not been allowed to weaken. In the meeting, the way Prime Minister Narendra Modi linked global challenges with India’s perspective and clarified the direction of their possible solutions was especially noteworthy.

solidarity against hunger

The most important aspect of the meeting was the ‘Solidarity against Hunger and Poverty’ campaign launched by host Brazil, which has already received the support of 80 countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi openly advocated this campaign and called it an effort to implement the principles adopted for food security in the New Delhi summit.

Impact on Global South

Raising the issue of Global South in the context of hunger and poverty, PM Modi pointed out that the countries of the Global South have been most affected by the food, oil and fertilizer crises due to the ongoing wars in the world. Keep in mind, India has been raising the voice of the Global South on global forums in the most effective manner.

reform of global institutions

Whether or not it is on the formal agenda at important forums like the G20, raising the issue of improving the state of global governance and ensuring reform of global institutions is important because many major countries try to avoid meaningful discussion on these issues. However, to better deal with the challenges facing the world, it is important not to lose sight of the responsibility of adapting these global institutions to the changing circumstances. It is good that PM Modi did not fail to remind global leaders of this responsibility.

climate indifference

There were some issues on which the discussion could not move forward. Especially in the joint statement issued by the summit on climate change, it was talked about increasing climate finance from billions to trillions, but no indication was given about who will provide this money. Nothing more than a formality on the Ukraine war and the Gaza-Lebanon war could have been expected from the G20 meeting. However, in such difficult times, the commitment of the G20 countries, covering 85 percent of the world’s wealth, to face global challenges while maintaining their commitment to deal with them is something that keeps alive the hopes for a better future.
