The trend of AI and ML is gaining momentum in schools, lakhs of students are choosing a new path from 9th onwards.

A big change is being seen in modern education. Now Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a favorite subject for class 9 students. The central government is working on a mission to provide better career options to students by incorporating technologies like AI, Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR) into the Skill India ecosystem. With 98% of CBSE schools having IT infrastructure, this new subject is now helping in honing the skills of students.

What is the current trend

CBSE introduced AI subject in its schools in 2019. According to the Education Ministry, in the session of 2024-25, about 7,90,999 students from 4538 schools selected AI option in class 9th-10th. 5,0343 students from 944 schools have chosen this subject at senior secondary level. At the school level, under the Skill India Mission, most of the students are choosing this subject.

After completing school education, he/she is also pursuing Bachelor of Science (BSc) course with specialization in AI and Machine Learning (ML). AI and ML have been included in NCERT’s Class 11 Computer Science books. Apart from AI, options of 3D Machining, Big Data Analysis, ML, Drone Technology are being given at the university level.

Education Ministry’s emphasis on skill courses

The Ministry of Education says that cbse board Out of 30,373 schools affiliated to the Board, IT infrastructure has now been prepared in 29,719 as per the rules of the Board. Skill development courses are now being promoted. CBSE has directed all schools to prepare minimum IT infrastructure so that AI and IT based courses can be implemented effectively. The number of schools implementing IT based courses is increasing every year and the Ministry of Education is also reviewing it on a regular basis. Minimum IT infrastructure has been prepared in about 98% of CBSE schools.

Demand for AI and ML is high

AI and ML courses are in highest demand. MR is also an emerging technology that combines VR and Augmented Reality (AR) to create a new experience. It combines real-world information and digital information. The role of ML and AI has been given great importance in the National Education Policy 2020, as a result of which this course is offered in the form of a 15-hour module in Class 8. At the same time, it has been included as a skill subject from 9th to 12th.

The option of local languages ​​has also been given for engineering and medical studies. In such a situation, this technology is being used for translation of books. AI based tool Pradavini can be used.
