New Delhi. The ICC T20 World Cup will begin from June 2. A total of 20 teams are participating in this prestigious tournament being hosted by the US and West Indies. These teams have been divided into four groups of 5 each. The Indian team has been placed in Group A along with its arch-rival Pakistan. Team India’s first match is against Ireland on June 5. Indian players have reached New York and started practice. Team India, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, has reached the World Cup with the intention of ending the 17-year drought of the title. Host West Indies, along with India, Pakistan, Australia and New Zealand, are also among the strong contenders for the title. On becoming the world champion, the team will not only be given a glittering trophy but will also get a huge amount as prize money. The runner-up will also be given crores of rupees.

In the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup 2024, all teams will play equal 4-4 matches in the group stage. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 8. The bottom three teams will be eliminated from the tournament. The remaining 8 teams will be divided into two groups which will decide the semi-finals. The semi-finals will be played between the top two teams of each Super 8 group. The winners of which will clash in the final in Barbados on June 29. The ICC has not yet announced the prize money to be given to the winning team. If prize money is given this time as well like last time, then along with the winning team, the runner-up and the third and fourth ranked teams will also become rich.

Last time champion England got 13 crores
The ICC had set the total prize money for the T20 World Cup to be held in 2022 at 5.6 million US dollars. This was approximately Rs 46.6 crore in Indian currency. Last time England’s team became the world champion. England won the title by defeating Pakistan in the final. Then on becoming the world champion, England got about 13 crores as prize money, while the runner-up Pakistani team was given 6.44 crores. 16 teams participated in the last edition.

Top 4 teams also got rain of money
Apart from the winner and the runner-up, the teams finishing in the top 4 also became rich. Teams from India and New Zealand were included in this. Both the teams were given Rs. 3.25 crores equally. The teams that reached the Super 8 were also given a hefty amount as prize money last time. The Indian team was knocked out of the tournament last time after losing in the semi-finals.

17 teams are playing warm up matches
Except Pakistan, England and New Zealand, the remaining 17 teams are playing warm-up matches in the T20 World Cup. Warm-up matches have started from May 27 and will be played till June 1. The Indian team will face Bangladesh in a warm-up match on June 1. Warm-up matches are being played for 20-20 overs. They do not have the status of T20 International. All teams can field their full 15 players in the warm-up match.
