New Delhi. Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 started on Saturday. 18 matches were played on the first day. However, later Kiran More, a member of the Cricket Improvement Committee of Baroda Cricket Association, explained the reason for Pandya not playing. 31-year-old Hardik Pandya has not played any ODI match for about 14 months. his/her last ODI match was the World Cup which he/she played against Bangladesh in Pune on 19 October 2023. he/she injured his/her ankle in that match, after which he/she was out of the remaining matches. Vijay Hazare Trophy is being organized in ODI format.

Kiran More, member of the Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) of Baroda Cricket Association, said, ‘he/she will play from the knockout stage. he/she has informed us. Ajit Agarkar, Chairman of the National Selection Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, has already made it clear to the players that they will have to play domestic cricket when they are available for it. That means the players who are out of the Indian team and are completely fit, then it is mandatory for them to play domestic cricket. Hardik Pandya recently played for Baroda in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy after 8 years. his/her team reached the semi-finals. Pandya scored 246 runs in 7 matches and also took 6 wickets.

India has two all-rounders in the form of Pandya and Nitish.
The role of 31-year-old Hardik Pandya is going to be important in Team India for the upcoming Champions Trophy. Apart from Pandya, India has got another all-rounder in the form of Nitish Kumar Reddy who is currently performing brilliantly. Nitish plays domestic cricket for Andhra Pradesh. he/she is currently playing a Test series with the Indian team on Australia tour. Nitish is continuously impressing with his/her all-round performance in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Pandya played 38 T20 matches after returning from injury.
After being injured last year, Hardik Pandya played a total of 38 T20 matches which included international, IPL and domestic matches. Apart from this he/she did not play any other format. Pandya will play only if Baroda team qualifies for the knockout of Vijay Hazare Trophy. The knockout matches of Vijay Hazare Trophy will be played from January 9, while the final match will be played on January 18. Baroda is being captained by Hardik’s elder brother Krunal Pandya. Baroda has been placed in Group E along with Tripura, Kerala, Bengal, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi.
