The Supreme Court agreed to hear the petition to implement the provisions of the Places of Worship Act.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has given its consent to hear the petition in which AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has filed a petition demanding implementation of the law related to the Places of Worship Act.

All petitions will be heard on 17th February

The matter was raised on Thursday before a bench led by Supreme Court Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and a hearing on the petition was sought. The Supreme Court bench has directed to tag this petition with the already pending petition related to it. The Supreme Court said that all the petitions will be heard on February 17.

Petition has been filed on Places of Worship Act

Owaisi’s lawyer Nizam Pasha told the court that several petitions were pending on this issue and this new petition should also be added to them. On this the Chief Justice said that we will tag this petition with the already pending petition. A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court for effective implementation of the Places of Worship Act. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and MP Asaduddin petition has been filed in the Supreme Court. Under the Act, a provision has been made that the religious character of any religious place will be maintained in the same condition as it was on August 15, 1947.

Earlier, on December 12, a bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, while hearing petitions challenging the same law, had directed that as long as the matter is sub-judice in the Supreme Court, no court will register fresh petitions and the pending No interim or final orders will be passed in the cases. Owaisi’s petition has sought instructions to the Central Government for effective implementation of the law.
