‘People have a common perception about film and TV actors that their lives are very glamorous and full of glitz and glamour, but the truth is sometimes different.’ This is what Sumona Chakraborty, famous as comedian Kapil Sharma’s onscreen wife Bindu and Bhuri, said. In her personal life, she considers the period of the Covid pandemic to be the most difficult time for her, when she had to make many financial compromises due to sitting at home without work.

Had to extend home loan

Sumona tells that she had to extend her home loan due to Covid. She says, ‘The period of Covid pandemic was very difficult for me. It was also a very challenging time for me mentally because I was not at my best in terms of mental health. I was battling endometriosis. On top of that, when you do not have work and you have responsibilities, you have to take care of your parents, then everything is not easy. During Covid, we actors were completely sitting at home. We did not have the facility to work on zoom like corporate people. We were really unemployed because we get our daily wages only on the day we work. People think that everything is happy in our life but I am not from a filmy or business family that it does not matter whether there is work or not. I am from a very simple middle class Bengali family. My dad was in service, so it makes a lot of difference. That year I would have finished my home loan but I could not do it because we had to manage daily expenses from savings. It took me two more years to repay my home loan because I had to run the house and take care of the family, so people think it is a lot of glamour, but our struggle in life is the same.

Increased awareness of endometriosis post

While people generally try to make their photos and life look beautiful by applying filters on social media, Sumona spoke openly about her disease endometriosis. Sumona said, ‘I have been suffering from this problem since 2011, due to which I follow the necessary precautions regarding health and diet. I did not share it after thinking much. I shared it when I was in the mood. My thinking is that people are already seeing our reel side in TV and films, which is a little different from real life, so I should share the truth on social media and after that post of mine, many people messaged me to know more. I believe that this spreads awareness. Like when Deepika Padukone talked about her mental health, it affected many people. I myself met my specialist after many years after that post.’

I have done a show on adventure sport

Sumona is going to be a part of a stunt show like Khatron Ke Khiladi. How adventurous is she herself? On this she said, ‘I like adventure a lot. I like travelling. I have done bungee jumping, sky diving, everything. I actually did a complete show on adventure sports in Switzerland. That’s why I agreed to Khatron Ke Khiladi because I had time right now, so I thought let’s do it.’

Do you miss Kapil’s show?

Does Sumona, who was a part of Kapil Sharma’s show for a long time, miss that show and those colleagues? When asked this, she said, ‘Those were amazing ten years. When one of our projects ended, he/she (Kapil) went ahead and did another project and I am doing another project. That’s it. As far as missing them is concerned, they are my colleagues, but I have kept work and personal life very separate. I don’t take work home and home to work.’
