The path of Wakf Bill became easy, BJP got majority in Rajya Sabha, understand the complete maths

New Delhi: The Modi government at the Centre introduced the Waqf Board Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha in the monsoon session of Parliament. This bill has been sent to the JPC of Parliament. After the JPC, the bill will have to be passed in the Rajya Sabha as well. Passing this bill in the Rajya Sabha was also a big challenge for the BJP, but now the BJP alliance i.e. NDA has got a majority in the Upper House. After the support of six nominated members, the strength of the NDA has increased in the Rajya Sabha. Which can help the party in passing major bills like the Waqf (Amendment) Bill.

BJP’s path became easier in Rajya Sabha

Let us tell you that after the recently concluded Rajya Sabha by-election, the number of members in the upper house of Parliament has increased to 234, in which BJP has 96 members. At the same time, the number of NDA members is 113. With the six nominated members who usually vote in favor of the government, the strength of the NDA increases to 119, which is two more than the current majority figure of 117.

How many members does the opposition have?

The Congress has 27 members in the upper house while its allies have 58 members, taking the total strength of the opposition alliance in the Rajya Sabha to 85. Other parties with a significant number of members in the Rajya Sabha are the YSR Congress with nine members and the BJD with seven. The AIADMK has four members, three are independents and the other MPs are from smaller parties that are not in alliance with either the Congress or the BJP.

11 seats are still vacant in Rajya Sabha

Four seats from Jammu and Kashmir are vacant in the Upper House as the Union Territory is yet to get its first assembly. A total of 11 seats are vacant in the House, including four from Jammu and Kashmir, four from Andhra Pradesh, four nominated members and one from Odisha. Two YSR Congress members and one BJD member resigned from the Rajya Sabha recently. BJD member Sujeet Kumar joined the BJP after resigning, which is likely to win the by-election on this seat.

These parties are with BJP

Two members who resigned from the YSR Congress – M Venkataramana Rao and B Mastan Rao – are likely to join the ruling TDP in Andhra Pradesh, which is an ally of the BJP. BJP’s allies in the Rajya Sabha include Janata Dal-United (JDU), Nationalist Congress Party (RKP), Janata Dal-Secular (JDS), Republican Party of India (Athawale), Shiv Sena, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), National People’s Party, PMK, Tamil Maanila Congress and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL).
