Parents are unaware of their mistake

Murthy’s statement highlights the fact that there are many loopholes in parental responsibilities that many parents are not aware of. Many parents believe that their responsibility is limited to providing the right study material and necessary stationery to their children.

They think that their role ends there, when in reality it is the responsibility of the parents to create an inspiring and positive study environment for their children.

he/she said that when his/her children were in school, he/she and his/her wife Sudha Murthy spent more than three hours a day studying with their children Akshata and Rohan. This created an atmosphere at home where the children valued studies and maintained the study time in a disciplined manner.

I will sacrifice the TV

he/she said that in the evening, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, the children studied and were not allowed to watch television during this time. “My wife’s argument was, if I am watching TV, I cannot ask my children to study. So she said, ‘I will sacrifice my TV time and I will also study,'” Murthy said.

This method is wrong

Murthy emphasised on leadership qualities in parents and said leading by example is the most important responsibility of parents. “If parents go to watch movies themselves and then tell their children ‘no, no, you study,’ that approach will not work,” he/she said.

How have you raised yourself

Sudha Murthy has also spoken many times about how she raised her children to be disciplined and set them the right examples. At a school function, Sudha Murthy shared the anecdote about how she convinced her son to have a simple birthday party. She encouraged her son to donate the money he/she would have spent on the birthday to the education of their driver’s children.
