The opposition ‘India’ alliance should look publicly united … not scattered, why did Sibal say that

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha member Kapil Sibal said that the opposition coalition ‘India’ should publicly look ‘united’, not as it usually appears. Sibal also advocated a formal structure for the opposition alliance with spokespersons who can put forward the ideas of the coalition. Sibal said that parties involved in the opposition coalition ‘India’ need a coherent policy, ideological structure and program for the future.

When asked about the wrangling between ‘India’ allies in the recent state assembly elections, Sibal said that I believe it (India) should look united, not as it usually appears. The parties involved in ‘India’ require a consistent policy, a consistent ideological structure and a consistent program for the future.

Rajya Sabha MP Sibal said that I am not talking about state level or national level. There should be uniformity in the way of thinking on issues of national importance and until the mechanism is established and unless there will be a spokesperson of the alliance who can put forward its views, I do not think it can move very effectively. Asked if there should be a formal political structure for the ‘India’ alliance, Sibal said that he/she has been saying this for a long time.

Sibal, however, expressed confidence in the future of the opposition alliance. The ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ (India) was formed by opposition parties before the Lok Sabha elections to counter the BJP -led National Democratic Alliance at the Center. When asked about the Waqf (Amendment) Bill that can be introduced during the current budget session and the options with the opposition, Sibal said that it would have to be seen what allies of NDA alliance do in this matter as BJP does not have a majority.

Sibal said that let’s see what his/her stand is. Elections are going to be held in Bihar. I think if they introduce the bill, then they may worry about what effect it will have on elections in Bihar. So I do not know what will be the result. So we should wait and see. If the bill is passed, then people wishing to challenge it have options.

On the disputed delimitation issue, Sibal said that it has very serious implications for the politics of the country, so Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin convened a meeting and leaders of several parties including Congress participated in it.
