The one whose annual contract was snatched away by calling him/her undisciplined, became the biggest hero of IPL, celebrated in the style of Messi

New Delhi. A player whose national contract can be snatched away on charges of indiscipline, if he/she makes his/her team win the IPL. That too as captain. Then what will you say? Yes, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer has done this. he/she has left the despair behind and written a new story of success. KKR captain Shreyas Iyer celebrated winning the IPL in the style of Lionel Messi winning the World Cup.

A few weeks before the IPL, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had terminated the central contract of Shreyas Iyer. Apart from this, due to repeated back injuries, his/her career was in danger of being interrupted. Shreyas has had to face many challenges since the beginning of this year. Leaving all these disappointments behind, he/she ended KKR’s 10-year IPL title drought in the same way as Messi won the World Cup for Argentina after 36 years. While Lionel Messi had to face defeat in the final of the 2014 World Cup, Shreyas had to face a similar moment in 2020 when under his/her captaincy Delhi Capitals reached the IPL final.

After lifting the IPL trophy, Shreyas celebrated with his/her teammates in the same way as Messi celebrated after defeating France in the FIFA World Cup final in Doha. After KKR’s victory in the final, veteran Ian Bishop said, ‘I am hearing a lot about Gautam Gambhir that he/she has created a great atmosphere in the team. But I don’t think this player is getting enough credit. We should give it credit.

For KKR, openers Sunil Narine and Phil Salt scored more runs but whenever they got a chance, other players also raised the level of their performance due to which the team secured the first position in the points table with two matches left in the league stage. Shreyas Iyer said, ‘It is difficult to express emotions at this time. This wait was quite long. We remained undefeated the entire season. There are so many memories to cherish.

After KKR reached the finals, Shreyas became the first captain in this league who took two franchises to the finals. he/she stayed away from the game last season due to surgery to recover from a back injury, but his/her comeback this season was charismatic for the team.

The beginning of this year was not good for Shreyas. After scoring 140 runs in the first two matches of the home Test series against England, he/she was dropped from the team for the last three matches. It turned out that back pain was troubling him/her again. However, the BCCI medical team declared him/her fit. Shreyas got embroiled in controversy when he/she was accused of joining KKR’s pre-season camp instead of playing Ranji for Mumbai. However, he/she returned to play the semi-finals and final for Mumbai. In the final, he/she laid the foundation of the team’s victory by scoring 95 runs in the second innings against Vidarbha. his/her contribution made Mumbai Ranji champion for the 42nd time. During this time, BCCI removed Shreyas Iyer from the Grade B contract and the board issued a warning asking the players not to give priority to IPL over domestic cricket.

It was a bad start to the IPL for Shreyas. he/she was out for a duck on two balls in the team’s opening match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. he/she played some important innings after this but all his/her efforts paled in comparison to the explosive batting of Narayan and Salt. Shreyas was the fourth most successful batsman of the team with 351 runs. Shreyas cultivated the image of a ‘cool captain’ throughout the season and prioritized the team’s success over his/her own performance. Chasing the target of 160 runs in the qualifier match against Sunrisers, he/she played an unbeaten aggressive inning of 58 runs to give the team an easy victory.

Praveen Amre said, ‘The way he/she handled the team as a player is commendable. he/she is continuously improving as a captain. I believe that success does not come by chance. he/she has worked hard for this. Has taken care of the team. Yes, they had a good team but you should know how to get the best performance from all the players. (input language)
