‘The nose was starting to look like an elephant, where everyone used to stare’, the person told the story

Rhinophyma: Alan Findlay, 56, is a resident of Dumbarton, Dumbarton, Scotland. Findlay has seen very bad times in his life. Because the skin of his nose had swollen so much that he started feeling embarrassed to go anywhere. Wherever he went, people used to mention his nose and stare at him, which Alan did not like at all. Allen was worried for a long time because of the puffy skin of his nose. Actually, Alan Findlay had a disease called Rhinophyma. Rhinophyma is a skin related disease, which is mostly seen in the elderly. In this disease, the skin around the nose swells, due to which there is difficulty in breathing many times.

This disease was at its peak in Alan. His case was not ordinary. So the NHS skin specialist was not ready to operate. The specialist told Allen that surgery is usually done only when there is difficulty in breathing. Although it was probably God’s grace on Allen that his surgery proved successful. He underwent laser treatment at a specialist clinic in Glasgow, in which the flesh around his nose was completely removed. Alan thanked the specialist who treated him. He said, ‘This is an amazing transformation.’ Alan said, ‘When you compare the nose before and the nose after surgery, you will find that my whole life has changed.

lost confidence

Alan’s confidence has increased significantly since the treatment of the elephant’s proboscis. He is constantly expressing his happiness saying that his life has changed. Alan, who works for a lighting company, said, ‘I started seeing the difference in my nose since the year 2018. Extra flesh started emerging on the right side. As the years passed, he started growing more and more. I was starting to look terrible. People also started talking different things about this. My social life had deteriorated. Even I stopped going out. My confidence had also fallen.

‘I got my life back’

He said, ‘It started running in my mind that I am starting to look like an elephant. I had become so worried about my looks that it started affecting my mental health. Alan said, ‘It affected my wife Rowan the most, because she had to take me to the clinic. We usually go to visit my stepson on Christmas day. But I lacked so much self-respect that I hesitated to go there. He just stayed at his house. Allen said his wife, Rowan, searched the Internet and finally found a clinic that specializes in laser treatment of rhinophyma. Dr. Cormac Convery, who treated, said that we saw the worst example of this disease in Allen. His condition was so bad that laser treatment was done in two sessions instead of one. But even after this the doctor was afraid whether he would be fine or not. But his surgery was successful. Alan said, ‘I’ve got my life back’.
