The name ‘India’ is a symbol of colonial slavery, it should be removed…BJP MP raises demand in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi : The issue of renaming the alliance of 26 opposition parties as INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) to take on the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the coming Lok Sabha elections is hot. Meanwhile, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raised the demand in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday to remove the word India from the country’s constitution.

Naresh Bansal, a member of the BJP in the upper house, made this demand through a special mention and termed the name India as a colonial symbol and a shackle of slavery.
In argument for his demand, Bansal referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15 last year, in which he called upon the country to free itself from the symbols of slavery.

Bansal said that in the last nine years, Prime Minister Modi has on many occasions advocated the removal of colonial heritage and colonial symbols and replacing them with traditional Indian symbols, values and thought.

The BJP member said that the British changed the name of Bharat to India. He said that due to the hard work of freedom fighters and sacrifices, the country became independent in 1947 and in 1950, ‘India that is Bharat’ was written in the constitution.

He said that the name of the country has been Bharat for centuries and it should be called by that name. He said that the English name of India, the word India, is a symbol of the slavery of the British.

Bansal said that the symbol of slavery should be removed in the golden age of freedom. He demanded that Article 1 of the Constitution should be amended to remove ‘India that is’ and this holy land should be named Bharat. He said that Bharat Mata (India) should be freed from the shackles of this slavery in the form of name.

The BJP MP has made this demand at a time when the opposition parties have united and named their alliance as ‘India’.

Recently, Prime Minister Modi compared ‘India’ with terrorist organizations like Indian Mujahideen and Popular Front of India, saying that just by changing the name, one’s character does not change.

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar also targeted the opposition alliance on Thursday. On creating ruckus during one of his statements in the Rajya Sabha and disrupting the proceedings of the house, he said that the opposition members claim to be ‘India’ (the name of the opposition alliance), but if they are ready to listen to the national interests of India If not then what kind of India are they?

In the current session of Parliament, it has been seen several times that when the members of the ruling party raise slogans of Modi-Modi in the House, the opposition members raise slogans of ‘India’-‘India’.
