The gift given to PM Modi will be yours! Auction of more than 600 gifts has started, know what all is included


New Delhi : E-auction of more than 600 gifts and mementoes received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including items of Paralympic medal winners and a replica of Ayodhya’s Ram temple, began on Tuesday. The sixth edition of the online auction began on the occasion of the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who turned 74 on Tuesday. The first edition of the e-auction was held in January 2019.

According to the Culture Ministry, a part of the auction pays tribute to India’s valiant warriors and freedom fighters and celebrates the glorious chapters of the country’s history. “PM Souvenirs are back! This is your chance to own gifts and souvenirs presented to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi! Join the e-auction from 17th September to 2nd October and place your bids on unique artifacts, crafts and sculptures,” the Culture Ministry said in a post on ‘X’.

Price ranges from 600 to 8 lakhs

Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Monday visited an exhibition showcasing mementoes received by the Prime Minister at the National Gallery of Modern Art here. Later, at a press conference, he/she told that the base price for auctioning these gifts is fixed by a government committee and the prices range from a minimum of Rs 600 to a maximum of Rs 8.26 lakh.

Auction of 600 items

This time, around 600 items received as gifts by Prime Minister Modi in the last one year will be auctioned. The items whose base price has been kept the highest include the badminton rackets of Paralympic bronze medalist Nitya Shri Sivan and Sukant Kadam, as well as the ‘discus’ of silver medalist Yogesh Khatuniya. Their base price has been fixed at around Rs 5.50 lakh.

How much does which gift cost

The base price of a signed cap by silver medallist Sharad Kumar has been set at around Rs 2.86 lakh, besides shoes donated by Paralympic bronze medallists Ajeet Singh and Simran Sharma and silver medallist Nishad Kumar. A replica of Ram temple costing Rs 5.50 lakh, a peacock statue costing Rs 3.30 lakh, a Ram Darbar statue costing Rs 2.76 lakh and a silver veena costing Rs 1.65 lakh are among the other items with high base prices. Gifts with the lowest base prices include cotton angavastram, cap and shawl, priced at Rs 600.
