The garland worn by Gandhi during the Dandi March is not finding any buyer, know the reason

New Delhi: Mahatma Gandhi’s necklace could not be auctioned in London. This necklace was worn by Gandhiji during the Salt Satyagraha of 1930. The necklace was put up for sale at London’s Lion & Turnbull auction house on Wednesday, but no buyer was found. Its price was estimated between 21 lakh to 32 lakh rupees (20,000 to 30,000 pounds). There was also a photograph of Gandhiji in which he/she was being garlanded.Memories are related to defeat
This garland was made of pink cloth, card, golden threads, tinsel and pieces of paper written in Gujarati. This necklace was given to Gandhiji’s personal physician Dr. Balwantrai N. Was part of Kanuga’s collection. This garland was passed down from generation to generation in his/her family. In the blurred picture, Gandhiji’s wife Nanduben is wearing this necklace. Below the picture it is written that Gandhiji Nanduben Kanuga. On the day of Dandi March. Bungalow on 12 March 1930. This suggests that this garland was given to Gandhiji near his/her house in Ahmedabad when the procession was passing by.

The Dandi March was one of the most successful movements in Gandhiji’s struggle against British rule. Christina Sain, head of the auction, told TOI that even though Gandhiji’s garland did not sell, I am very happy with the results of the sale of Indian artefacts. There was continuous bidding in the Indian art section and more than 90% of the items were sold. These results show good momentum in the Indian market.

Who sold for how much?
V.S. A Rajasthani miniature from Naipaul’s collection sold for £7,056. A rare group of Indo-Portuguese mother-of-pearl pottery from a Scottish estate has sold for more than £75,500. A painting from the Bhagwat Purana series, known as Gular’s Manku, sold for £27,700. The auction was held online and included many rare and valuable art works. Although the non-sale of Gandhiji’s garland was a bit disappointing, the sale of other artefacts shows that people’s interest in Indian art is increasing. This is a good sign for Indian art and culture. It also shows how high the value of objects of historical importance can be.
