Congress leader Pawan Kheda questioned how this kind of disturbance can happen in the city with a history of 300 years of communal harmony. he/she accused some political parties of deliberately inciting tension for their benefit.

Chief Minister’s riot broke out in hometown

The Congress leader said, the riot erupted in the Chief Minister of Maharashtra’s Chief Minister. The history of Nagpur is 300 years old and there has been no riot before before. We should ask why such a situation arose. he/she said that the BJP is in power in both the Center and the state. he/she questioned that if the VHP and the Bajrang Dal protested against the demand for Aurangzeb’s tomb, did the government not make any arrangements to maintain law and order?

Curfew has been imposed in Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, Lakdanganj, Pachpavali, Shantinagar, Sakkardara, Nandanvan, Imamwara, Yashodhara Nagar and Kapil Nagar police station areas of Nagpur city. This curfew will remain in force till further orders.

The mob pelted stones

There were violent clashes in Central Nagpur late Monday night demanding the removal of the grave of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb from Khultaabad. In this, dozens of people were injured. The mob set fire to 40 vehicles, including two bulldozers and police vans. At least 10 anti-riot commandos, two senior police officers and two firefighters were seriously injured in the violence, while the condition of one constable remains critical.

The police took a large action and arrested 50 rioters. At the same time, the Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a report on this violence. The incident took place just two weeks before Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Nagpur. The violence erupted when a rumor spread that protesters from a particular community had barely lit Aurangzeb’s effigies and a religious sheet near the Shivaji effigy square at the palace gate 2 km from the RSS headquarters.
