The fort which every person wants to see, now a glimpse of it can be seen at this airport.

Airport News: The fort which every foreign tourist coming to India wants to see at least once, will soon have its exact glimpse in the new terminal building of an airport. Yes, we are talking about the new international airport to be built in Agra city of Uttar Pradesh. Airport Authority of India (AAI) is preparing to start the construction of Agra’s new international airport soon.

According to a senior official of the Airport Authority of India, the design of the new terminal of Agra International Airport has almost been finalized. The concept of local art and architecture has been kept for the new terminal building. At the same time, when we talk about the architecture of Agra, the first thing that will be talked about will be Taj Mahal and Fatehpur Sikri. Therefore, efforts are being made to give a glimpse of Fatehpur Sikri to the new terminal of Agra.

Agra’s new terminal will look something like this.

Which parts of the fort will you get a glimpse of?
The new terminal of Agra Airport will have tall carved pillars on both sides, over which there will be a big dome. The concept of these carved pillars and dome has been taken from the Jodhabai Palace of Fatehpur Sikri Fort. Also, the design of the external pillars of the new passenger building of Agra Airport has been taken from the decorative balconies found in the Fatehpur Sikri complex. Apart from this, efforts are also being made to create artefacts used in the fort in the walls and pillars.

A glimpse of local art will also be seen in the terminal
According to a senior official, AAI is trying to ensure that the local reflection of that city is reflected in the new terminal building being constructed. The same effort is being made in the new terminal building being built in Agra. Preparations are on to engrave local artefacts of Agra on the exterior of the new terminal building of Agra Airport. Apart from this, an attempt is being made to reflect the historical architectural art of Agra through backlit lattice and marble inlaid patterns on the exterior of the terminal building.

How is the current airport of Agra at present?
The current terminal of Agra Airport has a traffic capacity of only 500 passengers. There are two runways with a terminal of 52,400 square feet. In which the first 05/23 runway is 2,743.2 meters long and 45 meters wide, while the second 12/30 runway is 1,817.83 meters long and 45 meters wide. At present, Agra Airport is being used not only for passenger traffic but also as an Air Force base. The number of passengers traveling through Agra Airport in March 2024 was 21,164, which is 79.1 percent more than last year in March 2023.

The decision to expand the terminal was taken in 2023
With the aim of promoting tourism in Agra, the Cabinet of Uttar Pradesh Government had decided to upgrade the existing airport to the status of international airport on September 12, 2023. Under the decision, a new terminal building will be constructed on 34,346 square meters, which will have a capacity of 1400 passengers during peak hours. The new terminal will also have 32 check-in counters, three baggage belts and four aerobridges. Apart from this, nine narrow body aircraft will be able to stand simultaneously in the apron of the airport. These narrow body aircraft also include aircraft like Boeing’s B-737 and Airbus’ A-320.
