The Election Commission’s press conference is going to start shortly, the opposition has raised questions

New Delhi: Voting for the Lok Sabha elections has been completed and the counting of votes will take place tomorrow on June 4. The Election Commission is going to hold a press conference today shortly before the counting of votes. It is not clear at the moment on what issue this press conference will be held. It is believed that the Election Commission may give information about the voting percentage and preparations for counting of votes.

The Lok Sabha elections were held in seven phases, which began on April 19 and concluded on June 1. This is perhaps the first time that the Election Commission will hold a press conference after the voting is over. The invitation sent to the media by the Election Commission says ‘Press Conference by Election Commission on Lok Sabha Elections 2024’. Till the last Lok Sabha elections, the Deputy Election Commissioner used to hold media briefings after each phase of polling but now this practice has been discontinued.

The BJP on Sunday alleged that parties in the India Alliance, including the Congress, were trying to undermine the credibility of India’s electoral process and urged the Election Commission to prevent any attempt to cause violence and disturbance during the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections on June 4.

Earlier on Sunday, a delegation of leaders of the opposition ‘India’ alliance met the full bench of the Election Commission and urged to ensure compliance of all guidelines during the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections on June 4. These guidelines also include announcing the results of postal ballots before the results of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi was also among the leaders who met the commission.
