The doctor said – If you carry the baby in your lap like this, his/her spine will definitely become crooked.

A lot of care has to be taken in the care of a newborn baby. Even a small mistake of yours can have a heavy toll on the health of the child. A newborn baby is very delicate, neither its bones have become strong nor any part of its body is strong yet. If we talk about the spinal cord of the child, it is also very weak.

Due to some mistakes of parents or people taking care of the baby, the spinal cord of the baby can get damaged. How you handle your baby’s spine is very important. Lucknow’s Pediatrician Dr. Tarun Anand Pedia has told through a post on Instagram which mistakes can cause damage to the spine of the child.

If you repeatedly lift the child in your lap but do not keep his/her waist straight or do not give him/her support, then it is wrong to do so. Do not hold the child in a curled or slouched position. This may put pressure on his/her spinal cord. Make the child lie down on a normal surface so that his/her spine can get support.

In the first few months after birth, the baby’s neck muscles are still developing. Whenever you lift the child, support his/her head and neck. This will not put pressure on the child’s spinal cord. Whenever you lift a newborn baby in your lap, give support to its head. Lift him/her only by placing your hands behind his/her head.

swaddle the wrong way

Swaddling too tight, especially around the legs, makes the baby less able to move and this affects his/her spinal alignment. Keep the child’s legs free so that he/she can move. There is no need to keep the baby swaddled all the time. Doing this may affect the development of your child’s motor skills.

The doctor said that many parents start making their three-month old baby sit, which is wrong. The child starts sitting after he/she is 6 months old. Therefore, try to seat the child only after this age. If you seat a child younger than this, it may put pressure on his/her spine.

The doctor also told that a pillow should not be placed under the baby’s neck. Before the baby is three months old, the neck muscles are not developed and using a pillow can damage his/her neck muscles. Due to this, there is a risk of damage to the spinal cord.
