The date of monsoon has arrived amidst the scorching heat, know when heavy rains will start from Delhi to Bihar

New Delhi: The period of severe heat continues in the entire North India including the capital Delhi. The temperature in Delhi has reached around 45 degrees, while the mercury is also rising continuously in states like UP, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab. The Meteorological Department has predicted heat wave for a few more days. While the heat is bad in North India, the South-West monsoon is also slowly progressing. On Wednesday, the monsoon has covered a large part of Maharashtra, while Central and North India, which are facing severe heat, are still waiting for the arrival of monsoon.

These states are in a bad condition due to heat


On Wednesday, severe heat wave prevailed in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, most parts of Jharkhand, many parts of North Rajasthan, some parts of Himachal Pradesh, South Bihar, North Odisha and the Ganga coastal areas of West Bengal. Severe heat conditions were also witnessed in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jharkhand and the Ganga plains of West Bengal. The maximum temperature was between 45-47 degree Celsius in western Jharkhand, southern Uttar Pradesh, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Punjab, some parts of North Rajasthan. The highest temperature of 47.5 degree Celsius was recorded in Kanpur of Uttar Pradesh.

When will the monsoon reach Delhi?


The maximum temperature in Delhi on Wednesday was 44.7 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has predicted the arrival of monsoon in the capital by the end of June. Delhi is experiencing severe heat these days. For the last 15 days, the maximum temperature has been recorded above 40 degrees Celsius. The IMD said that the monsoon is expected to arrive in the city by the end of this month, around June 27. The Meteorological Department has predicted strong winds and partly cloudy weather at most places on Thursday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 45 and 30 degrees Celsius respectively.

How far has the monsoon reached?

The Meteorological Department said that the monsoon may reach Odisha, coastal Andhra Pradesh and northwestern Bay of Bengal during the next three to four days. An official said, ‘The monsoon is weak in the Bay of Bengal and it is awaited to move forward from there.’ Meteorologists say that hot winds coming from the northwest are dominating the weak monsoon over the Bay of Bengal and increasing hot weather conditions in parts of central and northern India.

When will the monsoon reach North India?

Former Earth Sciences Secretary Madhavan Rajeevan said the monsoon pattern is getting disrupted after its normal progress. “Not much progress is expected in the next 8-10 days, so its onset over North India may be delayed. This is likely to lead to extreme temperatures and heatwaves over North India, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar,” he/she said. According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon is expected to reach Bihar and Jharkhand by June 16-18, Uttar Pradesh by June 20-30 and Delhi around June 27, which is the normal onset date for the national capital.
