The cricketer who scored fifty and took 3 wickets in a single T20I match 4 times

New Delhi. For an all-rounder in cricket, performing brilliantly with both bat and ball in any match gives a different kind of happiness. This performance truly justifies the tag of ‘all-rounder’ attached to his/her name. In international cricket, some all-rounders like Ian Botham and Imran Khan have achieved the feat of scoring a century and taking 10+ wickets in the same Test. In ODIs, some select players like Viv Richards and Paul Collingwood have scored a century and taken a 5-wicket haul in the same match. Similarly, in T20 Internationals, many all-rounders have scored a half-century and taken 3 or more wickets (Fifty and 3 Wickets in Match) in the same match.

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has done this feat in Saturday’s T20I against Scotland. In the match, he/she took 3 wickets for 35 runs in 4 overs with his/her fast bowling and then became the ‘Player of the Match’ in the team’s victory by scoring an unbeaten 62 runs with the help of 2 fours and 5 sixes in 39 balls. As far as scoring a half century and taking 3 or more wickets in a single match the most number of times in T20I is concerned, this record is in the name of Mohammad Hafeez of Pakistan (Pakistan Cricket Team). Hafeez, popularly known as ‘Professor’ among fellow players, has done this feat 4 times.

The special thing is that all four times he/she batted first and then bowled. Not only this, 3 times he/she has done this against the same team (Zimbabwe). he/she has done this twice against Zimbabwe in 2011 with a difference of one day. Australia’s Shane Watson, Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza, Malaysia’s Virendradeep Singh and Mozambique’s Jose Bule have joined this special club 3 times each. Let us tell you, Sikandar Raza was born in Sialkot, Pakistan.

In the first match of the two T20 series, Pakistan batted first and scored 198 runs for 4 wickets in 20 overs, in which Hafeez played an innings of 71 runs with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes in 48 balls. Just a day after this, on 18 September 2011, Hafeez once again single-handedly overpowered the Zimbabwe team. In the second match of the series, Pakistan again batted first and with the help of Hafeez’s 51 runs (5 fours and a six) in 38 balls, Pakistan reached 141 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. The target of 142 runs was not very difficult but Hafeez also showed his/her skills in bowling and took 3 wickets for 11 runs in 3 overs and allowed the host Zimbabwe to score only 136 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. he/she was the best player in both these matches.

In the Super Sports match against South Africa at Centurion, he/she scored 86 runs in 51 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes and was out hitwicket. he/she got out in the 17th over of the match, otherwise he/she had a chance to score a century. After batting, he/she proved to be the big difference between the two teams in bowling as well and sent David Miller, Robin Peterson and Rory Kleinveldt back to the pavilion by giving away 25 runs in 3 overs. his/her performance with bat and ball was the best in both the teams and naturally he/she became the Player of the Match.

Performing brilliantly with the ball after the bat, Hafeez took 3 wickets for 30 runs in 4 overs and restricted the host team to 160 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs.

In his/her international career from 2003 to 2021, Hafeez has performed brilliantly in all three formats of cricket. he/she has 3652 runs and 53 wickets with the help of 10 centuries in 55 Tests, 6614 runs and 139 wickets in 218 ODIs and 2514 runs and 61 wickets in 119 T20Is. However, Hafeez has also been suspended from bowling on a few occasions due to suspicious bowling action.
