The code of conduct was lifted after three months; it was implemented after the announcement of Lok Sabha elections

New Delhi : With the completion of the Lok Sabha election process, Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India Rajiv Kumar, Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu met President Draupadi Murmu on Thursday evening. They handed over a copy of the notification issued by the Commission under Section 73 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 to the President. It also contained the names of all 543 Lok Sabha members elected after the general elections of the 18th Lok Sabha. After this, the Model Code of Conduct imposed by the Commission across the country from March 16 was also lifted with immediate effect on the evening of June 6.

Election Commission sent order
For this, the Commission has sent a copy of this order to the Cabinet Secretary of Rashtrapati Bhavan, Chief Secretary of all 36 states and Chief Election Officer (CEO). The Commission said that due to the general elections, the model code of conduct imposed across the country has been removed. This includes those states where assembly elections were also held. However, the code of conduct will still be in force in those constituencies of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana where biennial and by-elections are being held.

Election Commissioner meets the President
The Commission said that Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and both the Election Commissioners met the President at 4:30 pm on Thursday. After this, all three and other officers of the Commission reached Rajghat. Where the Commission paid tribute to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on the successful completion of this world’s largest election process. According to the Commission, the President congratulated the Commission as well as all the employees and officers involved in this entire process for conducting fair and free elections.

A total of 65.79 percent voting took place in the seven-phase general election-2024. Which was more than one percent less than 2019. The commission said that 63.88 percent voting took place in the 7th phase. Which was 59.45 percent till 8 pm on June 1.
