The case of cash found in the house of Delhi High Court judge raised in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi: A case related to the recovery of cash from the residence of an existing judge of the Delhi High Court was raised in the Rajya Sabha on Friday. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said that he/she will try to debate a systematic discussion on this issue. Raising this issue in the morning session, Jairam Ramesh of Congress sought an answer from the Chairman on judicial accountability and reminded about the pending notice regarding impeachment against a judge of the Allahabad High Court. Ramesh said that this morning, we read about the shocking case of a huge amount of cash being found at a judge’s residence of the Delhi High Court. he/she also told that earlier, 50 MPs had given a notice to the Chairman regarding some comments made by a judge of the Allahabad High Court. Ramesh said that the Chairman himself has repeatedly talked about judicial accountability. A senior Congress member also reminded Dhankhar that he/she had instructed the leader of the House on the issue.

he/she said, “I request you to make some comments on it and give necessary instructions to the government to come up with a proposal to increase judicial accountability.” On the issue of alleged seizures of cash, Dhankhar said that what he/she was worried about is that the incident happened but did not come immediately. he/she said that if such an incident had been associated with a politician, bureaucrat or industrialist, the person concerned would have immediately targeted. he/she advocated a systemic response in cases that are transparent, accountable and effective.

The Chairman further said that he/she would contact the Leader of the House and the Leader of the Opposition and will find a mechanism for systematic discussion during the session. A senior advocate expressed grief and surprise before the Delhi High Court on Friday when he/she was allegedly recovered from Justice Yashwant Verma’s residence. The Supreme Court Collegium has decided to transfer him/her to his/her original Allahabad High Court from the Delhi High Court on the allegations of allegedly recovery of heavy cash from Justice Verma’s residence.

On the impeachment case, the Chairman said that he/she had received a report from 55 members of Rajya Sabha. he/she said that most of the members reacted positively, helping me to perform my duty. he/she appealed to the remaining members to respond to the e-mail sent to him/her.

Dhankhar said that if the number of signals is above 50, he/she will move forward accordingly. he/she said that most of the members have collaborated. The members who have not yet sent their reply, please answer the second mail sent to them. Then the process will not be delayed at my level, not even for a moment. The Chairman also informed the House that one of the 55 members who signed the representation is at two places and the member concerned refused to sign the second.
