On the morning day of Ahoi Ashtami, devotees who take bath in the holy waters of Radha Kund get the blessings of Ahoi Mata as well as Radha Krishna. Bathing in Radha Kund is considered very auspicious for those who are facing problems in conceiving a child. It is believed that on the day of Ahoi Ashtami, couples who come here to take bath are blessed with a child. And couples whose wishes are fulfilled come here with their children and after taking bath in Radha Kund in the morning, they get their children shaved.

The religious importance of Radhakund and Shyamkund for Ahoi Ashtami bath has been mentioned in the Puranas. In ancient times, Radhakund was known as Arishta Van, the city of the demon named Arishthasur. This demon was very powerful. It is said that its roar was louder than that of a lion, so loud that it even caused pregnant women to miscarry. Then, at the behest of Kansa, the demon took the form of a cow’s calf and attacked Shri Krishna in child form.

Krishna killed this demon who came in the form of a calf. After which he/she was accused of the sin of killing a cow. To get rid of sin, at midnight of Ahoi Ashtami, two separate ponds were created by Lord Krishna and Radha, which are today known as Radhakund and Shyamkund.

How to reach Radha Kund

by rail: The nearest railway station is Mathura Junction, about 26 kilometers away. From Mathura Junction you can go to Radha Kund via auto, taxi, or bus.

Buses and autos run regularly from Mathura to Govardhan. After reaching Govardhan, you can reach Radha Kund from there by rickshaw or on foot.
by the road: If you are coming from Delhi or surrounding areas, you can take a bus or taxi directly to Mathura or Govardhan.
The distance from Delhi to Mathura is approximately 160 kilometers, which you can cover in 3-4 hours via car or bus.
The distance from Govardhan to Radha Kund is about 5-6 kilometers, which you can cover via rickshaw, auto or on foot.
By air: The nearest airport is Delhi International Airport (Indira Gandhi International Airport), about 160 kilometers from Radha Kund.
From the airport you can take a taxi or bus to Mathura, and then from Mathura to Radha Kund.
