Tharoor will be the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, Digvijay gets the command of the committee related to education

New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor will chair the Parliament’s standing committee on foreign affairs, while senior party leader Digvijay Singh will head the committee related to the education department. Party sources gave this information. Sources also said that former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi will chair the Standing Committee on Agriculture and party MP from Koraput, Odisha, Saptagiri Ulka will chair the committee on rural development.

After the formation of the new Lok Sabha, after a long consultation with the government, the main opposition party has got the chairmanship of three standing committees of the Lok Sabha related to foreign affairs, agriculture and rural development. Congress has also got the responsibility of chairing the standing committee on education of the Rajya Sabha. The party has now decided the names of the chairpersons of these committees.

Although there is no official notification regarding the chairmanship of the standing committees of Parliament, it is expected to be issued soon. Congress organization general secretary KC Venugopal is already the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). There are a total of 24 standing committees related to departments in Parliament.
There are 16 permanent committees under the Lok Sabha and eight under the Rajya Sabha. Each of these committees has 31 members. There are 21 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha, who are nominated by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha on the recommendation of the respective parties. The tenure of these committees is one year. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had said a few days ago that there was no delay in the formation of the committees.
