AIC24WC: Thankfully, Team India, which dominated the Cricket World Cup 2024, has returned home safely. At the same time, a thing has come to light regarding the Air India plane that brought the Indian cricket team from Bridgetown to Delhi, due to which there has been an uproar from Delhi to New York. The uproar is such that the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has had to intervene in the whole matter and order an investigation. Also, DGCA has issued a notice to Air India in this regard and sought a reply.

In fact, the Air India Boeing 777-232 (LR) plane that brought Team India from Bridgetown to Delhi was scheduled as flight number A1-106 from New York to Delhi. This plane took off from Delhi for New York on 2 July as flight number A1-105 at around 03:24 am. As per the scheduled schedule, this plane was to take off for Delhi on 2 July at 12 noon according to New York’s local time.

But this did not happen. This flight was cancelled a few hours before the scheduled time. According to New York local time, this plane was scheduled for Bridgetown at around 10 am. This plane ready to leave for Bridgetown was allotted special flight number AIC24WC, AIC24WC means Air India Champion 24 World Cup. However, it is a different matter that this plane remained stuck in New York till 9:30 pm.

After a struggle of about 11 hours, the plane left New York Airport for Bridgetown at around 21:36 pm. The plane landed at Bridgetown Airport at around 1:41 am local time. According to officials, after waiting for about three hours, the plane took off for Delhi with the Indian cricket team at 4:56 am local time. The plane landed safely at Delhi’s IGI Airport at around 6:05 am.

At the same time, as soon as the news reached New York Airport that flight number A1-106 had been cancelled and the plane had been sent to Bridgetown, the passengers started creating a ruckus. After convincing the passengers with great difficulty, Air India arranged to send them to Newark Airport, which is about 20 minutes away from New York. The passengers were taken to Newark Airport by bus and then from there they were accommodated in the incoming flight and sent to New Delhi.

At the same time, as soon as the news of this move of Air India came to light, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) also came into action. Keeping the interests of common passengers paramount, DGCA has issued a show cause notice to Air India and sought a reply. If DGCA is not satisfied with the airline’s reply, then Air India may once again have to face a huge fine.
