New DelhiA fire broke out in the Central Market of Lajpat Nagar on Saturday morning. There is a showroom of clothes from where the high flames are seen rising. First people tried to douse the fire but failed to call the fire department. According to the fire department, the fire was reported at around 10.20 am. More than 30 vehicles have been sent to the spot. Fire extinguishing work is going on now.
According to a fire brigade official, they received information about a massive fire from Block-1 Central Market of Lajpat Nagar Market. “A showroom here is on fire. 30 fire tenders have been sent to the spot. Further details are awaited,” the official told news agency IANS.
This is the first incident after the market reopened after a month-long lockdown. Before the lockdown, a fire broke out in a furniture market in Shastri Park on April 11. Then 27 fire tenders brought the fire under control after a struggle of about two hours. Around 200 shops of furniture and hardware in the market were gutted due to the fire.
Prior to that, a fire broke out at a stationery godown in Dilshad Garden on April 8. 15 fire tenders were sent to the spot. There were no casualties in these accidents.
