‘Teaching children in coaching classes is wrong’, why did the Infosys owner say this

What did Narayan Murthy say on coaching classes and why? ‘It is a wrong way to take the help of coaching classes to help children pass exams. Most of the children who go to coaching classes do not listen carefully to their teachers in school.’ This is the statement of Narayan Murthy, co-founder of Infosys, a big company in the tech sector, and business tycoon. Not only this, Narayan Murthy also said that ‘parents who are often unable to help their children in studies, consider coaching centers as the only solution’.

Murthy said this during the launch of the 13th edition of Paul Hewitt’s ‘Conceptual Physics’ in Bengaluru. Expressing concern over the rapid growth of the coaching industry in India, Murthy said that ‘the increasing demand for tuition points to a deeper problem in India’s education system’.

Coaching is teaching you to rote learn!

Narayana Murthy also tried to explain that the increasing demand for coaching is creating a structure in the education system that is promoting rote learning. This is reducing the real education/real understanding of children.

Narayana Murthy said, ‘The purpose of education is to learn how to learn. The education system should focus on skills that can help deal with real-world problems. Such as observation, analysis and hypothesis testing.’

It is worth noting that earlier this month, during an event, Narayan Murthy had told a child that – ‘I don’t want you to be like me. I want you to be better than me for the good of the nation’. That event was of Teach for India Leaders Week. Murthy had said these things when a 12-year-old child had asked Murthy what he/she had to do to become like him/her?
