Why is Teachers Day celebrated on 5 September?

Every year on September 5, Teachers’ Day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of India’s second President and great scholar Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. Dr. Radhakrishnan gave great importance to education. he/she dedicated his/her entire life to the field of education.

Once his/her students urged him/her to celebrate his/her birthday. To this he/she said, ‘Instead of celebrating my birthday, I would be proud if September 5 is celebrated as Teachers’ Day.’ Thus, from 1962, September 5 started being celebrated as Teachers’ Day in India.

There is no knowledge without a Guru, there is no direction without a Guru,
Without a Guru, the senses cannot be controlled; without a Guru, the glory cannot increase.

Good morning to all our teachers. Today when we have gathered here on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, I would like to thank every teacher who has always been our guide. You have not only taught us a new way of learning but also inspired us to keep studying and learning even during lockdown like Corona.

Teachers Day is celebrated every year, so on this occasion I would like to talk about the history of Teachers Day and the reasons for celebrating it:

Those who teach us to walk on the path of hard work,
Teaches us to burn in the fire of passion.
No matter how much you trouble them, they don’t get upset,
he/she is the one we call our children’s teacher.

Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on September 5. Do you know why this date was chosen? This day is the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, who was an Indian scholar. he/she was also the second President of India from 1962 to 1967.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was a great scholar who dedicated his/her life to education. Once his/her students asked him/her to celebrate his/her birthday. he/she replied simply and said, ‘Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be a matter of pride for me if September 5 is celebrated as Teachers’ Day.’

his/her birthday was then declared as Teacher’s Day to honor all teachers. Since 1962, September 5 is celebrated as Teacher’s Day in India.

Finally, I would like to end my speech with the quote from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, “The aim of education is to create good human beings with skills and expertise. Enlightened human beings can be created by teachers.”

Thanks to all my teachers who have always been our guides and supporters!
