New Delhi : The BSF jawans posted on the India-Bangladesh border were shocked when, on the basis of information received from informers, they caught a gold smuggler who had secretly entered West Bengal from Bangladesh. The information about the smuggler having gold was correct, but nothing was found on him/her during the search. his/her X-ray was done in the hospital, which confirmed the presence of gold biscuits. When the accused was interrogated strictly, he/she told that he/she got scared on seeing the BSF jawans near the border and swallowed the gold biscuit. The customs officials are now showing reluctance in taking the accused into custody. They say that they will take him/her into custody only when the BSF takes out the gold from the accused’s stomach.

Sources said that the incident happened last week. BSF officials received information that a smuggler was bringing gold from Bangladesh. The informer also told his/her name and appearance. BSF jawans caught him/her while crossing the border. Gold was not found during the search, but two biscuits were seen in the X-ray. Later the accused also informed about this and told that he/she had swallowed two gold biscuits of 100 grams each.

The accused was also caught three months ago

According to BSF officials, the accused was caught about three months ago on charges of gold smuggling and was handed over to the customs. It is not known how he/she escaped. Sources said that the customs officials were informed about the case, but they refused to take the accused. They say that they will take the accused into custody only when the BSF hands over the gold to them. A BSF official said that it is the job of the customs to catch the smuggler. The accused is being handed over to the customs along with the X-ray report, but they are currently refusing to take his/her custody.
