Taiwan condemns China’s “controversial” war, says Singapore supports one-China ‘policy’, not one-China ‘principle’

Responding to an “erroneous” statement by China’s Foreign Ministry, a top Taiwanese diplomat said on Wednesday that Singapore has a “one-China policy” and rejected China’s “one-China principle”, local media reported. Has not followed.

A report by Focus Taiwan quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Tien Chung-kwang as saying that “It has been a long-standing practice for China to speak on behalf of other countries regarding Taiwan.”

Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said on 16 November that China had agreed to a “commitment on Taiwan” after Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) on 15 November. “Infallibly wrong” statement was issued. summit in peru

The Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a statement after the meeting saying that “Singapore fully understands the Chinese government’s position on the Taiwan question, opposes any form of ‘Taiwan independence’, and a- “China firmly adheres to the principle.” However, a statement issued by Singapore’s Foreign Ministry after the same meeting said that “Singapore has a clear and consistent ‘One China’ policy and opposes Taiwan independence.”

Focus Taiwan quoted Minister Tien as saying that the difference between the two statements and Beijing’s replacement of the one-China “policy” phrase with “principle” is further evidence of a “propaganda war” by China.

Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry urged the international community to “condemn China’s unilateral and deliberate bullying practices that undermine regional peace and stability.”

The Taiwanese MOFA condemned China for using APEC and other international forums to “spread lies that undermine Taiwan’s sovereignty” and mislead international public opinion.

China has increased its military activity around Taiwan since September 2020, deploying aircraft and naval ships and adopting gray zone tactics to achieve its security objectives.
