T20 World Cup: The team has been selected, but the problem of playing XI remains, a tough decision will have to be taken, where will Shivam fit?

New Delhi. India has announced its team for the T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma will be the captain of the team and Hardik Pandya will take over the responsibility of vice-captain. Apart from the 15-member team, BCCI has also selected 4 reserve players. However, many veterans like Irfan Pathan also see shortcomings in the team. Irfan has expressed surprise at Rinku Singh’s non-selection in Team India. Now such surprises are emerging on the selection of the 15-member team, so imagine what will happen on the day when the Indian playing eleven will be selected.

If the Indian team chooses its playing eleven in a traditional manner, then the top-4 along with Rohit Sharma will be Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav. This means that India will not have a single cricketer in the top 4 who also bowls. This is a problem that has been troubling India for the last several years and at times it has taken a heavy toll on the team.

Shivam Dubey in place of Yashasvi…
India also has the option of selecting Shivam Dubey in the top-4. But for this, captain Rohit Sharma and the team management will have to take a tough decision. Shivam Dubey can come into the playing eleven only if Yashasvi Jaiswal or Hardik Pandya is kept out of it. Keeping Pandya out would be a more difficult decision, which the team would hardly take. Yes, if the Indian management wants to take a little risk then it can open with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Then Suryakumar will come at number three and Shivam Dubey will come at number four. Either the batsman Sanju Samson or Rishabh Pant will play the wicketkeeper position at number five. Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja at number six and seven.

Option to field with 4 specialist bowlers
In the last one-two years, the Indian team has tried to keep the batsman till number eight. In this endeavor, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur or Ravichandran Ashwin have been getting opportunities. But in trying to increase the depth of batting, bowling often gets affected. In such a situation, India has the option of fielding 2 specialist spinners and 2 specialist pacers from numbers 8 to 11 i.e. the last four numbers. If Shivam Dubey plays, he can also bowl one or two overs. But for this Shivam will be tested in the initial match only. Shivam Dubey has not been able to bowl in IPL due to the impact player rule. In such a situation, Shivam’s bowling cannot be trusted much. Yes, he can be tried in the first one or two matches, so that further strategy can be prepared.
