T20 World Cup: South Africa intimidated the former champion, the big team was restricted to the lowest score


New Delhi. The T20 World Cup 2024 is slowly coming into full swing. Two big teams South Africa and Sri Lanka came face to face in the tournament on Monday. This match proved to be very difficult for the batsmen of 2014 champion Sri Lanka. South Africa, looking for their first title, made them crave for every run. The result was that the match which was considered to be a close one, became one-sided. South Africa bowled out Sri Lanka for 77 runs in 19.1 overs. This is Sri Lanka’s lowest score in T20 matches.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first in Monday’s match against South Africa. But Sri Lanka’s batsmen looked helpless in front of the African pace attack. Otenil Bartman gave the first success to the South African team. he/she dismissed opener Pathum Nissanka (3). After this, Sri Lankan batsmen just kept coming and going.

Kusal Mendis scored the highest 19 runs for Sri Lanka. Angelo Mathews was the second top scorer of the team, scoring 16 runs. Apart from Kusal Mendis and Angelo Mathews, only Kamindu Mendis (11) could touch double figures.

4 batsmen including Sri Lankan captain Wanindu Hasaranga could not even open their account. Talking about South African bowlers, Enrique Norkia took the most wickets. he/she sent 4 batsmen back to the pavilion. Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj took two wickets each. One wicket went to Bartman.
